Espionage as career path
Espionage is often overlooked as a career path. Aspiring young political scientists everywhere are poopooing a field that naturally provides a life rich in intrigue, adventure, and make-believe because they think "I can't do that"—or worse—"I won't do that" when the answer is plain: yes you can! And yes, yes you will. Kidding. Spies are ALWAYS pretending!
Spying's central role in international affairs cannot be overstated. Therefore, a close examination of espionage is essential to political erudition and sheds bright light on the so-called "dialog among the states."
You'll need to do a little legwork but your birthday gift, presented as mission should you choose to accept it, is to learn more about this fascinating métier by:
1.) Taking a friend to the International Spy Museum
The museum only sells advance tickets if you select a date which we did not want to do on your behalf. So you can either go here and book two tickets on the desired day or buy tickets in person knowing that may mean a wait to get in. In either case, put it on Daddy's credit card and I will venmo him when the charge comes through. I will also, at that time, venmo you funds for 3, below. It's complicated but this is how spies do things.
2.) Learning more about the spy's nests of DC and official spy agenices. Feel free to do additional research on your own. We have suggested a route from school to museum with espionage breaks. You may choose or not choose to take this walk.
3.) Visiting a renowned spy's nest for local flavor and inspiration. You never know when you may need a nest of your own and your current city has a very rich history.
Please pick a place from 2 (or from your own research) and go there for a coffee and a bite after the museum to discuss your new passion for espionage with the friend you dragged along. Please take clandestine photos for me in both locations. There is an AI hallucination in this gift. One of the venues does not exist. This seemed appropriate. You never know with spies.
